Iluka Resources (ASX:ILU) is a leading producer of mineral sands, specifically high grade zircon and titanium dioxide rutile, and has a burgeoning rare earth elements business. At the time Sandon Capital first purchased shares, the company also owned a royalty over BHP’s Mining Area C iron ore operation (the MAC Royalty).

Turning around years of poor performance

At the time of the campaign Fleetwood was perceived as a mining services company with a number of stranded assets that had failed to deliver consistent profits. The board and management team had lost the faith of the market and, as is typical with fallen angels, the market had moved on with very little institutional interest in the company.
